Gilead Baptist Church
Meet some of our people and groups...
Gilead Baptist Church believes in caring for the fatherless and widows and widowers. James tells us this is pure and undefiled religion in the sight of God.
If you have recently lost someone close to you, come join us for support, healing for a hurting heart, a friend to talk to and from time to time...good food!
Pastor Chris, Deacon Calvin, Deacon Harold and Deacon Johnny praying together for the church during a recent service.
Here at Gilead, we believe in prayer and the power of it.
Some of the wonderful ladies of Gilead preparing gift bags for our Christmas Service visitors (L to R: "First Lady of GBC" Ginger Smelcer, Mrs. Karla Roche, Mrs. Kristi Davis, Mrs. Kelly Fawver).
These are only a few of the wonderful people that helped prepare the incredible gifts for all of members and visitors. We assure you, there was not a quiet or dull moment in this room. The love and laughter that exudes for wonderful ladies like these, is infectious. It will do your heart good just to be around some of the great women of GBC.
Part of the gifts given out each Christmas season to our member and visitors are the good old-fashioned treat bags full of fruit and most importantly, CHOCOLATE!
Pictured is Mrs. Karla and Mrs. Kelly along with Deacon Johnny Roche. Brother Johnny is also our trusted Adult Sunday School class teacher. Johnny is a student of the Word. He has the ability to quote bible verse after bible verse. It is truly impressive how God has blessed him with the knowledge he has of the blessed Word of God.
It should also be noted that Johnny has an incredible sense of humor. It has been said that if Brother Johnny is not in the pulpit, you cannot believe a word he says...needless to say, you must stay on your toes when Brother Johnny is around. When you visit us, have him tell you about the time he talked a competitor in a bass fishing tournament into throwing all of his fish back just before weigh-in...
Just before our Christmas service, some of our favorite singers, His by Grace, are warming up and getting ready. They have been so good to GBC. They sang for our Homecoming, and they produced and sang Christmas music for our 'Walk Through Bethlehem' production.
It was special night when we celebrated the Savior's birth with family and friends with great singing, scripture reading and prayer and an intimate candle lighting service. What a wonderful night and His by Grace were so inspirational.
We took time one Saturday to celebrate the reveal of one of our sweet young couple's baby. They found out they are having a BOY! We had a good number of the Gilead family come out to support them.

We celebrated Pastor Whitson's
91st
birthday together as a church family. It was special day. He preached the morning service and saw many friends come to support this great man of God still standing and proclaiming the Gospel. Our church truly loves Brother Whitson and what he means to us.
We took a wonderful group of folks 'out on the town'.
We had a great time driving through Shadrack's Christmas Light Show, touring Pigeon Forge lights along the strip and ending our trip at Mama's Farmhouse Kitchen in Pigeon Forge.
The stories that we shared, the jokes we told, and the memories we recalled were loads of fun.
You never know what may happen at GBC. Come and be part of the fun. While you are here, ask someone how God blessed us on this trip. It is an amazing story...
We took a trip to Smoky Mountain Axe House and had a great time of food, fellowship and fun! The whole night turned into the Pastor's team versus the Pastor's wife's team. Teams were divided evenly and 'smack-talk' began. After a few controversial calls and a some official judges reviews, it turns out the the Pastor's wife's team won the evening 245 to 233. The match is under protest as the winning team stole all the good axes and had a nationally ranked axe thrower from the venue on their team to help even the numbers. If you are interested in having fun in a clean atmosphere where the adults and kids alike are enjoying each other's company, join us Gilead Baptist Church. There is a place for you here! And if you happen to be a good axe thrower, request to be on the Pastor's team, they need help...

This Sunday evening choir was so special. Our folks are singing their hearts out. We have young people and elders singing together. How special that is!
